Packaging and Labeling Requirements
We encourage that all vendors work with us to have a positive impact on the environment. When you ship your merchandise, we ask that you use sustainable, environmentally friendly packing material that also minimizes damage to the product while in-transit.
Recommended Packing Materials:
- Biodegradable packing peanuts
- Cornstarch packing peanuts
- Full Sheets of Paper
- Air Pillows
- Biodegradable Bubble Wrap
Packing Materials NOT Recommended:
- Foam
- Styrofoam Peanuts
- Crinkle Wrap
- Shredded Paper
General Packaging Guidelines:
- Make sure all cartons are sturdy and have all flaps intact.
- Make sure there are no holes, tears, or corner dents
- We do not recommend reusing cartons from previously shipped items or with external branding (i.e. Staples or ULINE). If you do reuse a shipping carton, please ensure to remove any labels and previous shipment markings from reused cartons before shipping.
- Seal cartons with strong tape designed for shipping. Select vendors will be notified by the UG DS team if we’d like you to use branded UncommonGoods packing tape, which we will send to you at no charge.
- Do not use string or paper over-wrap.
- Shipment labels should not be placed on the seam of the carton where they can be damaged when the box is opened.
- Fragile merchandise should be packed with 3” of packing material on all sides.
- Merchandise with sharp edges should be wrapped to prevent damage to the item and the shipping carton.
- Heavy merchandise should be packed in double-walled cartons
- For a unit that exceeds 50 lb., attach a label that clearly indicates “Team Lift” or “Heavy” on the top and sides of the box
Also Include
- Packing slip (printed from the UG DS extranet or generated by the order data provided in an order feed). Failure to include a packing slip will result in a chargeback for that order.
- Artist card (if applicable for handmade items)
- Product care instructions (if applicable) – Any merchandise that require special care or handling should include care instructions. Please ensure all relevant care instructions are communicated to your merchant. Care instructions should be clearly printed on the outer packaging with the UPC barcode or SKU label as well as included in the inner packaging with product as specified when ship instructions are initially provided.
